Rhone and Provence

VINTUR  Rouge Tradition 2011 AC Ventoux
We are very excited about this estate - new to us - a short distance outside Carpentras. We are offering four of their wines. This wine is soft, charming, with a touch of pepperiness on the finish. Grape varieties: Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault, Mourvèdre. Terrific value.

VINTUR Rosé Tradition 2013 AC Ventoux
Classic Provence rosé: pale onion-skin colour - fresh and refreshing. Grape varieties: Grenache, Cinsault, Mourvèdre.

CÔTES DU RHÔNE 2016 Domaine des Romarins
Old-fashioned, full-bodied (14% alcohol) Côtes du Rhône. Grapes: Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, Mourvèdre.

"LE MAZET DES ROMARINS" Viognier 2016 Vin de Pays du Gard

Fine example of Viognier, from west of Avignon: clean, with good acidity, and with flavours of peaches and furry apricots.

VINTUR Blanc Tradition 2014 AC Ventoux
Outstanding white Rhône. Drink this instead of white Châteauneuf du Pape - it uses the same grape varieties (Grenache Blanc, Clairette and Roussanne), but is much better value. It is quite rich, with a flavour that grows on you the more you sip it. It is partly fermented and matured in oak barrels, but the oak is subtle, barely perceptible.

VINTUR "Cuvée Le Gentleman" 2011 AC Ventoux
This was aged in oak for 20 months before bottling. A blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Carignan. Andrew Jefford comments: "Soft yet textured, bramble fruit with lots of herbal undertow and some liquorice...... Poised and elegant."

CÔTES DU RHÔNE "Les Bateliers" 2014 Clos de Caveau
A rich, full old-fashioned Côtes du Rhône, a blend of Grenache (70%) and Syrah (30%), carefully made, from organically cultivated grapes. This estate was owned in the 1970s by Steven Spurrier.

SIGNARGUES Côtes du Rhône Villages 2015 Domaine des Romarins
This is a blend of Grenache (50%), Syrah (45%), Mourvèdre (5%). Bottled after a year, this is a beautiful, elegant, rich expression of Côtes du Rhône.

VACQUEYRAS "Carmin Brillant" 2014 Clos de Caveau
This is an outstanding wine, matured in oak barrels, but showing no vanilla flavours. It is absolutely packed full of bright, sunny fruit, and has the potential to age gracefully for at least a decade. The domaine is perfectly sited, higher than all the other properties in the appellation, giving the wine a wonderful freshness (the harvest here is a week later than its neighbours).

GIGONDAS 2015 Domaine Raspail-Ay
Terrific, full-throttle Gigondas with weight and density - benchmark Gigondas.

CHÂTEAUNEUF DU PAPE 2016 Domaine Roger Perrin
Delicious, spicy Châteauneuf du Pape. Recommended.
