Australian and New Zealand Wines
For ease of identification: I have marked the New Zealand wines with an NZ;
those that are unmarked are Australian.

SEMILLON 2007 Tyrrell's Old Winery (White) Delicious, crisp, interesting Semillon from the Hunter Valley.
£7.50 |
KUMEU RIVER Sauvignon Blanc 2007 (White) NZ Made from Marlborough fruit, this has zing and freshness, and is moderately priced for the (high) quality.
£9.65 |
KUMEU RIVER VILLAGE PINOT NOIR 2006 (Red) NZ Crisp, crunchy, rather burgundian New Zealand Pinot Noir. Excellent value.
£9.65 |
KUMEU RIVER VILLAGE Chardonnay 2007 (White) NZ A junior bottling from Kumeu River, but delicious Chardonnay nonetheless - matured entirely in tank, no oak used.
£9.65 |
HALLIWELL Shiraz Grenache 2006 Rolf Binder Terrific Australian red with real guts, from the Barossa Valley.
£10.95 |
SAUVIGNON BLANC 2007 Llangibby Estate (White) Yes, this has a connection with Monmouthshire! Llangibby is a village a few miles outside Monmouth, and a native of Llangibby went out to Australia and started this vineyard. Fresh, crisp, cool climate Sauvignon Blanc. Recommended.
£11.50 |
SAUVIGNON BLANC 2009 Isabel Estate (White) NZ Isabel used to sell their production to Cloudy Bay. They now bottle the wine themselves. It is full-bodied, full of character, with a hint of tropical fruits in the flavour.
£12.50 |
SAUVIGNON BLANC 2008 Seresin (White) NZ Absolutely outstanding NZ Sauvignon Blanc fom Marlborough (home of Cloudy Bay). Fresh, vivid fruit, with a definite blackcurrant dimension to the flavour.
£12.85 |
MOMO Pinot Noir 2007 (Red) NZ Lush, ripe New Zealand Pinot Noir, but with poise and elegance. As good an example of this grape variety as you're likely to find at this price level from NZ.
£12.95 |
KUMEU RIVER ESTATE CHARDONNAY 2006 (White) NZ Probably New Zealand's best Chardonnay - done in a thoroughly French style, and matured in new French oak. It reminds me of a Puligny-Montrachet, and is certainly of similar quality, and thus represents exceptionally good value.
£15.95 |
NANTUA "Les Deux" Chardonnay 2002 Giaconda (White) This is a blend of two grape varieties, Chardonnay and Roussanne - hence the name. Huge wine - extraordinarily fat and rich - needs time to settle down and compose itself. But the balance is there to make this a sensational wine in a few years' time.
