Fine, balanced, not overblown Chardonnay. Impressive effort.

CARMENERE "Los Troncos" 2008 (Chile) (Red)
Carmenere is an ancient Bordeaux grape variety producing wine similar in flavour to Merlot - in fact, the Chileans (where this variety is widely planted) thought until a few years ago that it was Merlot. This is velvet-smooth, with nice, rich fruit.

SAUVIGNON BLANC Hacienda del Rey 2008 Canata (Chile) (White)
Impressively fresh, crisp Sauvignon, with a touch of grassiness, reminiscent of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.

CALAFATE Chardonnay Reserva 2007 Universo Austral (Argentina) (White)
A new addition - this is classic New World Chardonnay: big, rich, well-oaked, tropical fruit flavours, but very well done, with nice balance. A terrific crowd-pleaser!

CALAFATE Malbec Reserva 2008 Universo Austral (Argentina) (Red)
Interestingly, this comes from Patagonia, a significant distance south of the main vineyard area around Mendoza. This has excellent mulberry fruit, with just a hint of oak.
