MORELLINO DI SCANSANO "Fiore di Aliso" 2012 Poggio Argentiera (Red) Half bottles only From the newly fashionable area of the Maremma, this is a blend of mainly Sangiovese (85%) with Ciliegiolo and Grenache making up the rest. The Grenache adds a certain plumpness to the wine. In style it is similar to Chianti, but, being in a more maritime climate than the Chianti vineyards, it has a touch more freshness.

MONTEPULCIANO D'ABRUZZO 2019 Farina (Red) Excellent value red: lots of colour, only 12% alcohol, but with a surprisingly full flavour. A really good example of what you might call a trattoria wine.

"Il Santo" Nistri (Sweetish white) Half bottles Similar to Vin Santo, but technically a Vino Liquoroso because it's fortified (it is consequently considerably cheaper!). Excellent value. Although fairly sweet it is best drunk on its own, or dunked with cantuccini.

"CAMPOLIETI" Valpolicella Ripasso 2018 Luigi Righetti (Red) This is a tip-top Ripasso, given oak barrel treatment (though the oak is nicely integrated).

CHIANTI 2016 Cantalici (Red) 2016 was a great vintage in Tuscany. Cantalici make seriously interesting wines - flavours of tobacco and plums here, still vigorous and youthful, but drinking well now and for several years yet.

SPANNA DOC Colline Novaresi 2018 Antonio Vallana This wine has the best label ever: a triumphal Roman arch with a four-horse chariot. Spanna is another name for Nebbiolo, and this comes from the eastern hills of Piedmont, outside the town of Novara. It is a different, and thoroughly appetising, interpretation of the great grape of Barolo and Barbaresco - a bit lighter, and lower in alcohol, than its more famous cousins.
